Residents of Behala’s Bahadur Pokhar area woke up to a horrifying discovery on Sunday morning — the body of a newborn lying on the banks of a pond. The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of the Parnashri police station, triggering shock and grief among locals.
According to eyewitnesses, the infant’s body was first spotted early in the morning by residents who had come to the pond. The police were immediately informed and reached the site promptly. The body was recovered and sent to Vidyasagar Hospital for post-mortem examination to determine the cause and time of death.
Officers have started a probe into what they are calling a “deeply disturbing” case. CCTV footage from the surrounding area is being scanned to trace the person or persons responsible for abandoning the newborn.
The local administration has condemned the incident and assured that strict steps will be taken. Authorities are appealing to the public to come forward with any information that might help in the investigation.
